Even though many people who practice SEO focus more on achieving high rankings in SERP, sometimes we as website or blog owners certainly need the opposite, namely removing the website from Google search results. How to Remove URLs from Google Search

Usually, site owners really want their web pages to appear on SERPs. But there are times when deindexing or deleting URLs from Google search needs to be done for certain purposes as explained earlier. Here are several ways to delete URLs from Google that you can follow:

1. Use Google Search Console

In Google Search Console, there is a Removals feature that will help you remove URLs from Google easily. But remember, this tool can only hide your website pages temporarily or for a short time.

• Login to your Google Search Console account. Then, click Search property to select the property with the URL you want to remove from Google's index.
• Click New Request to request removal of the URL from Google search.
• Select the Remove all URLs with this prefix option, if you want to hide all URLs that match the prefix you wrote in the Enter URL column.
• Click the Next button and wait a few days for Google to accept your URL blocking request.
• After the request is accepted, the URL will disappear from search results for approximately 6 months or until you submit a URL index request again.

2. Delete Content Directly

The first way to delete a URL from Google search is to delete the website page directly. If you delete a page, the page will display a 404 not found error statement. However, your URL will be permanently removed from the index after Googlebot re-crawls it.

3. Use Google Remove Outdated Content

What if you don't have access to request to remove a URL from Google search?

Google Search Console also provides a Remove Outdated Content tool for users who find content that is not updated. With this feature, you need to enter the URL you want to remove from Google search results.

• The first step in how to delete a URL on Google search is to click the New request button as in the following image.
• Next, enter the URL of the website page to be deleted and click Submit to submit the request.

4. Remove URLs in Google Search with Yoast SEO

You can also do deindexing using the Yoast SEO plugin. Yoast is the best SEO plugin that can be used to add Noindex tags easily. This Noindex tag will give instructions to Googlebot not to index a website page. So, URLs set with this tag will not appear in search engine search results. To remove URLs from Google searches in this way, the first step you need to take is setting Yoast SEO on your website.

• After the Yoast SEO plugin is installed, open the website page you want to block from search results.
• Scroll down until you find the editor column. Here, find the Advanced option which contains several options.
• In the "Allow search engines to show this Post in search results?" setting? and “Should search engines follow links on this Post?” select option No.
• After you have configured as above, click Update to save the changes.

There are many ways you can remove certain pages from Google search. Just choose the method that you think is the easiest and most effective to do. However, it will be easier if you directly use Google Search Console, because this tool is directly connected to the Google search engine.
